The "Taking the Lead" session will outline new approaches for Local Government to lead and influence in times of change in order to ‘create sustainable futures’.
Managers of cities and counties that are taking the lead with these approaches will outline their organization’s benefits and outcomes:
- Randy Reid, County Manager, Alachua County, FL
and Chair of ICMA Sustainable Communities Advisory Committee
- Dr Phylis Mattice, Internal Services Director, Pitkin County, CO
- Bob Hart, City Manager, City of Kennedale, TX
and former Innovation Groups President
Greg Innes, the Founder and President of New Zealand-based Innes Strategy, a Corporate Partner of the Alliance for Innovation, will facilitate the session and outline an organizational development framework to enable local government to lead and influence in times of change and often with revenue cuts.
The session will outline new practices and explore organizational culture, staff satisfaction and a sustainable approach to introducing organizational change. Further the guest speakers will discuss paralleling organizational culture with the culture of the Governing body and also a 360° Internal Department performance project.
Outcomes, as will be highlighted, are:
- being more pro-active: influencing rather than accepting
- strengthening home rule decision making
- working across boundaries both within and with other organizations
- increasing employee and board member satisfaction
- attracting and mentoring generation Y in local government
- better alignment of governing body and advisory boards
